Before You Book Plastic Surgery Abroad: The Questions Worth Asking

Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery is a big decision wherever it happens, and choosing to have it in another country adds a few more things to think about. None of them are reasons not to go. They’re simply the questions a careful patient asks before committing, and the answers will tell you a lot about the clinic you’re dealing with.

Plastic Surgery

Is this procedure right for me?

Start with the goal, not the procedure name. Someone bothered by loose skin after weight loss might need body contouring, an arm lift or a tummy tuck, or a combination. Someone unhappy with their profile might benefit from rhinoplasty, or might find that a jawline treatment changes more than they expected. A good surgeon will listen first and recommend second.

The range covered by plastic surgery is wide:

  • Face: rhinoplasty, otoplasty (ear correction), face lift, brow lift, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) and cheek reduction (bichectomy)
  • Breast: augmentation, reduction and gynecomastia surgery for men
  • Body: Vaser liposuction, Brazilian butt lift, tummy tuck, buttock lift, arm lift and body contouring after weight loss
  • Intimate: vaginoplasty

Who will actually do the surgery?

Ask for the surgeon’s name and specialty, and make sure the person you consult with is the person who operates. Ask where the operation will take place and whether the hospital is accredited.

How long should I stay in Türkiye?

This varies by procedure. Smaller face procedures may need only a few days before you’re cleared to fly, while major body procedures often need a week or more so the surgeon can check you before you travel. Combining procedures can lengthen this. Build in a bit of extra time rather than booking the earliest flight home.

What does recovery really look like?

Swelling and bruising are normal and can take weeks to settle. With rhinoplasty, the final shape can take many months to show. Compression garments are standard after body procedures. Ask what you’ll be able to do in the first week, the first month and beyond, so you can plan time off work.

What happens after I go home?

Follow-up matters. Find out how the clinic stays in touch, whether photos can be reviewed remotely and what happens if something doesn’t heal as expected.
